Splitting off rules[edit]

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to perhaps move the rules and conventions to their own separate page. I found it a little difficult to find my way around at first and the rules at the very bottom of this page feel like more of an afterthought than an official policy. It seems slightly counterintuitive. Having a specific page dedicated to rules and guidelines would be more straightforward, well-organized and increase the likelyhood of people seeing them. Perhaps they could be linked from the navigation or even the front page as well. --Artsja (talk) 23:00, 18 April 2013 (CEST)

They're meant for wiki editors, not for the general public to read. Editors usually already follow established layouts around the website and the page is essentially useless for readers. None of the rules listed actually help in providing content to the site. They're mainly about organizing and limiting content. The project page is what I'm trying to focus on people to see if anyone wants to help.--Admin 23:33, 18 April 2013 (CEST)
Fair enough. I thought increasing visibility in this way would maybe help encourage new users to contribute, especially if everything concerning the quality of a page (e.g. content, conventions, general rules and formatting guidelines) were quickly accessible from a dedicated place. The project page is definitely useful but I'm concerned that those who are new to editing may still be intimidated. Although there is the sidebar, perhaps linking from the project page directly to this help page would be useful then. I understand your reasoning and don't want to interfere with your plans for the wiki. --Artsja (talk) 00:08, 19 April 2013 (CEST)
The main reason I think why those who want to contribute chose not to is because of time and effort rather than the feeling of intimidation. Even with the project page linked in the banner of every page on this site, few people visited that page at all. As of this post, there are 46 views on it, and I'm guessing over half of those are from regular visitors (analytics shows 16 unique page views). I've been on a wiki thousands of times bigger than this and even there getting new people to contribute is an issue. I find the best way of getting more people to contribute is to request help. Other ways include advertisement and encouragement but I don't know how to do those well.--Admin 01:26, 19 April 2013 (CEST)

uploading images[edit]

I have been trying to upload some images to the site but no matter what I try the image comes out blurry on the site despite being clear and fine on my pc I have changed image format quality settings sub sampling rates but to no avail, so if anyone knows how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated, I have also tried with both Gimp 2 and MS paint both produce blurry images when uploaded

Are you talking about the avatar in the infobox? If you're using Chrome (possibly also Safari), the image will always become blurry because the browser is upscaling the image without preserving the image. By default, all browsers will blur any upscaled images.--Admin 19:13, 7 May 2013 (CEST)
Do you know if there is a way to disable this on chrome? that would be very helpful
I don't think you should disable it. The feature might have other effects in the browser. You can try to search online for ways to disable image smoothing.--Admin 20:00, 8 May 2013 (CEST)

Alt names[edit]

A number of members have alt names that have never been used in regular conversation (particularly members like Etho and VintageBeef). What should count as an alt name and what should not? How should alt names used outside of MindCrack be treated? What about known personal names that aren't regularly used? My opinion would be to limit the alt names list to only have those that are used on multiple occasions and preferably over a long period of time, across multiple series, by multiple people and/or by the member to refer to themselves. Personal names would only be included if they meet the other criteria (Guude's would be included, but Generik and Zisteau's would not). Alt names should not list every name a member has ever been called. --Atharsea (talk) 10:00, 29 December 2013 (CET)
