Why was the link to the Ultra Hardcore Page deleted? Mehmattski 15:32, 18 June 2012 (CEST)

Symmetry. I'll add that back in and add another link in the second column.--Admin 17:56, 18 June 2012 (CEST)

New host for wiki[edit]

Due to constant problems the wiki experiences on its current host, TibTuner04 has offered to provide free hosting for the wiki at theultimatehosting.com. What domain name do you want? mindcrackwiki.com? I will hold for a week for more suggestions on this move.--Admin 19:13, 21 November 2012 (CET)

mindcrackwiki.com is fine by me. Thanks TibTuner! Atharsea 20:48, 21 November 2012 (CET)

I think that would be good -BobRingardMC-

I agree, mindcrackwiki.com is simple and to the point. --Mega 20:45, 24 November 2012 (CET)

I've messaged Tib a while ago and haven't heard back from him. I'll wait maybe two weeks to resend the message.--Admin 21:17, 30 November 2012 (CET)

HermitCraft[edit]

I am accepting the HermitCraft server on this wiki. All HermitCraft pages will fall under the Category:HermitCraft category and its subcategories (e.g. Category:HermitCraft/Members for members). Subpages (members, structures, teams, etc.) will be located under HermitCraft/<page name> (e.g. HermitCraft/Xisuma) and will contain content similar to the rest of the wiki. Crossovers will use transclusions (see HermitCraft/BdoubleO100).--Admin (talk) 20:58, 20 March 2013 (CET)

Video Timeline?[edit]

Question - I'm willing to sign up and help out if need be because I've kinda undertaken the goal of "watch every Mindcracker video ever since I'm unemployed" but is there any way to create a Timeline page in terms of videos (I know we have one for when people joined) that would list every video by every person that joined the server (both active and inactive) by day? That way it could be easier to see pranks and builds happening in "real time" and also because it would let people just see how the server evolved. - Jira

It's possible. All that can be automated using Semantic MediaWiki, the same technique used in the prank wars pages. Doing it by month would be more manageable.--Admin 18:12, 13 May 2013 (CEST)
I like the potential of using the databases for videos (or just query the category?), but I think to get the most out of it there should only be one database per world. That way we could add/utilize parameters that would allow timelines/video lists that show only the videos where the arena was being constructed, or what videos madcow has appeared in. Do databases have to be on only one page? It would make it much simpler to continue adding videos if it could be done on the video page of each member, would make it easier to find/fix mistakes (less scrolling/searching) and reduce the chance of edit conflicts.
I have set up a test at HermitCraft/Pungence/videos. Tell me what you think.--Admin 20:23, 22 May 2013 (CEST)
Before it can be rolled out to the other pages It needs something (either a parameter or by splitting the videos into separate databases) to distinguish between (MindCrack, Hermitcraft, FTB, Fanserver ...) and which map the videos take place on (Pre 1.8, Post 1.8, etc.) I'd prefer to have the map as (or as part of) a parameter, because there isn't a set start/end date for videos being released from a specific map. I'd also like to have a parameter like "construction" so video lists can be added to structures pages that show the construction of places like the arena, the lens. While such a parameter could be added later it would be easier to add them as videos are being moved into database format. Atharsea (talk) 03:21, 23 May 2013 (CEST)
Parameter for server/map is added. Check out Adlingtont/videos. Parameters for descriptions feels like overkill. I prefer to have those pages be detailed with the associated videos, not just a list of videos related to the page.--Admin 07:58, 24 May 2013 (CEST)
I'll see about starting to change everyones video pages over to the new format. I wanted to use the database to create a list of associated videos, rather than having to retype information. I do not want videos on the page where a structure simply appears on screen, only those where it is actually being constructed. I guess once a few more pages use the database system I'll try to see if there is some way to utilize the has events parameter to demonstrate what I wanted to do. Atharsea (talk) 15:52, 24 May 2013 (CEST)
What should the server title for FTB videos be? MindCrack FTB 1, 2, etc? And how about for Guude's single player? or does that stay a regular table? Atharsea (talk) 23:21, 25 May 2013 (CEST)
If "MindCrack FTB #" is used, then the main MindCrack series should use "MindCrack #", where # corresponds to Guude's season number. Do you prefer "MindCrack #" over "MindCrack Post/Pre"?--Admin 23:31, 25 May 2013 (CEST)
Corresponding MindCrack seasons to Guude's seasons is confusing because season 1 was single player, but if it's just used in the database it would work. Post/Pre would have to stay for sections on the video pages. Also, is there a way to get the dates to match the style we input them as, without messing up the table formatting? Atharsea (talk) 00:32, 26 May 2013 (CEST)

Yes, just for the database to keep it consistent. The date display in SMW is really limited. It's either "Day Month Year" or "YYYY-MM-DD". I'm not able to find how to change that. I'm working on the CSS for the tables.--Admin 01:09, 26 May 2013 (CEST)

What can we do to get mcgamer's videos to display correctly once they are converted to a database format? Because several of his series run concurrently they can't be split by date, like was done for BTC's videos, and there are too may of them to just lump them all together. The video property type doesn't allow wildcard searches, so the lists won't generate from a query of the video titles. Another issue is that videos with references (typically in regards to missing videos) are not displayed, and the page says it can't find the references tag that is on the page. This can be seen on Guude's and VintageBeef's video pages. Atharsea (talk) 04:26, 31 May 2013 (CEST)
I cannot find a solution to get <ref> tags to work in SMW. The best solution I can find is to use #info parser function:
{{#info:GuudeBoulderfist. YouTube comment. YouTube. <https://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v&#61;eIqX8-N1Kno>.}}
GuudeBoulderfist . YouTube comment. YouTube. <https://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=eIqX8-N1Kno>.
All equal signs must use the HTML entity ( &#61; ) and all entries must have a date for "Has date". For videos without a date, it's better and easier to take them out of the table and place a note at the end of the section. For people who have multiple overlapping series, you can add the property "Series is" to the table.--Admin 00:11, 1 June 2013 (CEST)
We need a way to have videos sort correctly when multiple LP's are published on the same day (see Guude/Videos). I've tried adding an artifical hour, but it displays even when the date is #ISO, and I also tried asking it to sort by the video after the date, but it doesn't work (maybe because the video is a text parameter?) --Atharsea (talk) 04:36, 7 June 2013 (CEST)
The trick is to place the entries in reverse. I don't know why it behaves like that but it works.--Admin 04:48, 7 June 2013 (CEST)

MCFS[edit]

Guude officially closed the MCFS without an announcement or any prior warnings. The reason was issues with the image of the brand being negatively affected by MCFS. It is optional to keep MCFS pages updated. I'm going to focus on HermitCraft.--Admin 08:57, 16 June 2013 (CEST)

It's sad how quickly it went. In reading the reddit thread it sounds like it wasn't Guude's decision, or at least not his alone. I'll finish their season of Ultra Hardcore, and hopefully there will be enough information to explain what happened to the fan server. I guess we'll figure out how they apear in any collabs with MindCrackers as the situations occur. --Atharsea (talk) 20:06, 16 June 2013 (CEST)
Apparently Monkey thinks having it shut down is the best decision to solve all the issues that accumulated up to that point. Guude wanted to reboot it while Monkey wanted to close it. In the end, the ultimate decision made was by Monkey. I'll see if I can get more viewpoints from people. In future collabs, they should be treated like any other LPers, not part of MindCrack anymore.--Admin 21:47, 16 June 2013 (CEST)
One last note, Monkey spoke out but I'm not sure if it should be made public so I'll be brief. According to him, the people on the main MindCrack server influenced his decision, not the drama or Reddit or whatever that arose. Guude wanted to keep the server but there were some who thought otherwise and that pushed Monkey. If anyone asks what happened to the server, the reasons listed on the MCFS page is incorrect. Simply say the head of the server chose to close it down. The thought was that someone else would pick up where he had left off but no one did. I'll just reword the misleading reasons listed on the page but the definitive reasons will remain unknown as long as there is no public source and everyone keeping quiet for whatever reasons.--Admin 07:28, 2 October 2013 (CEST)

External links lists[edit]

I finally took the time to finish what I had always wanted since I created Template:Icons. Links listed using that template were not properly formatted into HTML lists. That means browsers with CSS disabled, using custom CSS, or out-dated browsers would see a list of links without bullet points. When mixed with links that do not use the template but instead use * for bullet point listing, they would see a list of links with a mix of bullet point appearances and inconsistent spacings. This fix require just a bit more work but it would be properly formatted into a list. This is optional however; I have kept the old format so that you can just edit the list whenever you want.

Old format:

{{Icons|youtube|[https://www.youtube.com/user/ZombieCleo "ZombieCleo"], Cleo's YouTube channel}}
{{Icons|twitter|[https://twitter.com/ZombieCleo Cleo on Twitter]}}
* Random

The new format adds <ul></ul>, list is a parameter added to the template, and <li></li> for lists previously using (*):

<ul>
{{Icons|youtube|[https://www.youtube.com/user/ZombieCleo "ZombieCleo"], Cleo's YouTube channel|list}}
{{Icons|twitter|[https://twitter.com/ZombieCleo Cleo on Twitter]|list}}
<li>Random</li>
</ul>

Look at ZombieCleo and MindCrack for examples. If you know better ways to do this, feel free to discuss.--Admin 17:42, 22 September 2013 (CEST)

I'm fine with making changes that lead to proper HTML formatting, but can we implement the lists so they use YouTube, etc. data set with the {{#set: feature? I'd like to make more use of those set values to maintain consistent data, but right now what is displayed and what is set has no correlation. If we set the data on the page, then perhaps we could use a universal query to pull the data (pulling the members name from the page itself) and/or a template that displays nothing if no values are set for a user. Either way would make it much easier to add, maintain and use the information. --Atharsea (talk) 04:37, 25 September 2013 (CEST)
I might have to redo the template or create a new one. If I can create a new one, I'll try to make the process of adding external links more intuitive.--Admin 20:22, 25 September 2013 (CEST)

I finally finished creating the template from scratch. Check out Template:List. Template:Icons can be phased out of the site.--Admin 03:36, 28 September 2013 (CEST)

What is the preferred order for personal websites? Before, after, or somewhere in the middle of all the other links? --Atharsea (talk) 22:58, 13 October 2013 (CEST)
Personal/miscellaneous websites should be placed at the beginning of the lists.--Admin 04:59, 14 October 2013 (CEST)

YouTube channel titles[edit]

What's going on with the channel titles at YouTube? They used to be descriptive and now they just show the name. Etho went from "Minecraft Done Technical" to just "EthosLab" for example. Only a few people like Biffa still kept that title. I wrote Template:List with the thought that the channel titles would be unique but they're almost all names now.--Admin 16:32, 3 October 2013 (CEST)

I think a change that YouTube has made caused this to happen slowly. As for the Mindcrackers, seems like kurt is the only that has kept it the way it was. Mgt98 (talk) 20:59, 3 October 2013 (CEST)

Mobile view[edit]

The mobile view of the wiki can be accessed by clicking the link "Mobile view" at the bottom of the page. While in mobile view, you can revert it back by expanding the bottom section titled "The MindCrack and HermitCraft Wiki" and clicking the link "Desktop". It's an experimental feature that makes the wiki look very clean on very small screen sizes. Post here if there are any issues with it. The main issues I've encountered include some images being wider than the screen size, the contribution history page do not have a mobile view, and it lacks a proper sidebar.--Admin 10:13, 13 October 2013 (CEST)

Using the YouTube API in MediaWiki[edit]

I made a little parser function that gets a YouTube account's channel name and subscriber count:

Member Channel name Subscriber count
Guude
kurtmac

What do you think about this?--Admin 10:55, 7 January 2014 (CET)

Very cool! The title will be handy on the members page where the titles have had to be hand changed, and the subscriber count could be integrated in the infobox or lets-play section of the member page, and possibly the FAQ page. --Atharsea (talk) 03:14, 8 January 2014 (CET)
I've changed the extension a bit. Now it supports retrieving information from videos!
Video Video title Published date
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZI_SwHIdiU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO-LublLBGg
I added another parameter for this parser function. The first parameter is either "user" or "video". I will not be integrating this into the {{yt}} template because videos can get deleted and information would be lost. You can use the parser function to view the published date without looking into the JSON file in cases where more than one video are released on the same day.--Admin 04:00, 9 January 2014 (CET)

Possibility of adding members' YouTube banners on top of their pages?

channels4_banner.jpg

What do you think?--Admin 02:34, 14 January 2014 (CET)

I think it could look good, as most members have a banner that showcases their personality. Is there any way it could perhaps go adjacent to the table of contents though, instead of at the very top of the page? The table creates a larg white space it would be nice to have content for. --Atharsea (talk) 05:01, 14 January 2014 (CET)
The banner is very wide and wouldn't seem to fit with the infobox also taking up room. It would look especially cramped with small browser window sizes.--Admin 05:18, 14 January 2014 (CET)

S3 Overviewer map[edit]

I've managed to get a ton of space and bandwidth for the site (the reason why I haven't disabled images in a long time). I am currently rendering the S3 map which will be available here. The plan is to link all the structure images to a point on the map, like this. I'm not uploading the maximum zoom of the render because it is ridiculously large. The HermitCraft S1 render is completed and the MindCrack S3 render will be similar to that. It might take a long time to get the overworld render up due to the sheer size of the map. I've already completed the Nether and End.--Admin 06:47, 18 January 2014 (CET)

Cool! Linking the images will be a fun project. Are there any other edits that should be done to the images/structures pages at the same time? --Atharsea (talk) 20:12, 18 January 2014 (CET)
I have nothing else in mind. What do you have in mind?--Admin 21:09, 18 January 2014 (CET)
I didn't have anything in mind, I just figured it would be good to know if theres a preferred format for structure pages, links/categories that should be checked while I was working in the files.

Forum proposal[edit]

What do you think about having a forum? It will be a place where people can post suggestions and discuss about the wiki or the community in general, like an alternative to reddit. It will be a traditional forum using the phpBB software.--Admin 05:40, 1 February 2014 (CET)

I like the idea. It would be useful to discuss ideas/concerns that apply to more than one page, so aren't particularly suited to a single talk page. --Atharsea (talk) 07:01, 2 February 2014 (CET)
The link to the forum is here. If everything looks fine, I will place this in the announcement.--Admin 23:51, 3 February 2014 (CET)
Looks fine to me. --Atharsea (talk) 05:53, 5 February 2014 (CET)

lower-alpha[edit]

I think an admin needs to create MediaWiki:Cite_link_label_group-lower-alpha - just copy it over from english wiki, [3] - so that {{efn|foo}} will work correctly as [a] instead of showing up as [lower-alpha 1], as it does currently.

For an example of the problem, see MindCrack_Ultra_Hardcore#Winners_and_statistics.

For the tech details, see [4] 88.104.19.233 13:34, 20 February 2014 (CET)

Bump. I'd like to see this implemented. :) - Mgt98 (talk) 14:57, 23 August 2014 (CEST)

Minecraft Skin Viewer[edit]

I cobbled up an update for djazz's Minecraft Skin Viewer at http://mindcrack.altervista.org/skin/ if anyone's interested. I may implement it into the wiki when possible. What do you think of it so far?--Admin 00:25, 15 May 2014 (CEST)

I've spent way too much time on this but I finally got this to work for ANY Minecraft skin! Go to the address http://mindcrack.altervista.org/skin/index.php?member=<insert Minecraft name> to view any Minecraft skins with my skin viewer.--Admin 10:35, 17 May 2014 (CEST)

I don't want to drag you down, but capes seems broken. :P Mgt98 (talk) 11:00, 17 May 2014 (CEST)
I don't know how I can detect capes so I left it blank. I'm looking through how MCSkinSearch does it so it might take a while.--Admin 17:56, 17 May 2014 (CEST)

Plots[edit]

Maybe? Values are taken from SocialBlade. Chart parameters documentation is here.

YouTube Profile Pictures[edit]

I was just thinking of possibly adding the profile pictures of the MindCrackers to their infoboxes with a direct link to their channel. I don't know, good idea, bad idea? I could upload an example.--Mega (talk) 19:13, 11 August 2014 (CEST)

If it doesn't clutter up the infobox, I will consider it.--Admin 06:40, 22 August 2014 (CEST)

Status of the HermitCraft section[edit]

It seems that Xisuma has plans for an official wiki without any notice to me. Do you think it's worth continuing maintaining an unofficial section or stop work on it completely?--Admin 16:39, 13 September 2014 (CEST)

I'd recommend waiting until he begins his wiki. If his wiki is very similar to the one created here, then we'll support his official wiki and more or less "move" the information already gathered here to his site. -Mgt98 (talk) 02:09, 14 September 2014 (CEST)
It looks like they're just utilizing the reddit's wiki feature and only including current members. I'm sticking to this site and will continue working here. Information can be copied if you choose to but of course attribution is required.--Admin 08:06, 19 September 2014 (CEST)
Not acknowledging my request for attribution and then getting downvoted for it is not alright. I retract my previous response. All content on this wiki is to be NOT copied over to the official HermitCraft wiki. Authors should be credited for their work from this wiki.--Admin 06:39, 22 September 2014 (CEST)

Template for deletion requests[edit]

We should really add template for users to request a page for deletion, similar to mcwiki:Template:Delete. Maybe something like:

Delete.png This page has been tagged for and is currently pending deletion per user request Discuss

with an optional reason parameter. It would add pages to Category:Pending deletion, which an admin can occasionally check to delete articles.

--KnightMiner (t|c) 06:17, 4 October 2014 (CEST)

I'm sorry I couldn't be here sooner. If you'd like to create that template, go ahead, but I do look through all new pages that are created regardless if there's a template for deletion or not. Spam pages aren't too much of an issue yet. This has happened before in the early days of the wiki when account creation was opened. It surprises me that the primary spambots I see are the ones that must create a new account to spam the wiki. Unregistered users can already create new pages and edit pages.--Admin 19:47, 4 October 2014 (CEST)
I'm sure most spam pages will get noticed; although, this template is also useful for pages that once had content, but are no longer needed, such as user pages, or redirects left over from a file move.
Anyways, the template is now at {{delete}}. --KnightMiner (t|c) 00:24, 5 October 2014 (CEST)

Expanding scope of site[edit]

I'm considering expanding the site to include things outside MindCrack/HermitCraft. I am accepting single player or other non-related stuffs under the members' subpages like kurtmac/Far Lands or Bust or kurtmac/Wolfie. I am also accepting any other Minecraft multiplayer survival servers that are similar to MindCrack/HermitCraft. What servers would you like to cover?--Admin 01:59, 22 October 2014 (CEST)

The Build Guild Server. A private whitelisted server predominately made up of popular Twitch live streamers. Members with pages already on the wiki include Bacon_Donut (although only a redirect), IAmSp00n, iJevinYT, LuclinMCWB, sevadus, and VenomKisser. Other names I recognize from their server include ChaosChunk, CyanideEpic, wolv21 and Wyld. Here is their website. Mgt98 (talk) 06:47, 22 October 2014 (CEST)
You can go ahead and cover it.--Admin 18:10, 22 October 2014 (CEST)

Helping out with the Overviewer maps[edit]

If anyone wants to help out with the markers on the Overviewer maps, I figured out a way to let you do that through the wiki. The pages to edit are:

Make sure to use the JavaScript language.--Admin 10:20, 26 October 2014 (CET)

Thoughts on making the wiki more visual[edit]

I've been on-and-off editing lately and was thinking that we could make our pages on the MindCracker similar to a traditional Wikipedia page and contain more photos. Nearly all the members' pages contain a single picture of themselves in real life along with their Minecraft skin(s), I was thinking we could just add either more photos of the members themselves or of things like their YouTube profile pictures, logos, places where they record, things like MC Gamer's Zelda collection, etc. Additionally, we definitely need to get more updated pictures for the main page, preferably from the current season of MindCrack. --Mega (talk) 02:22, 7 November 2014 (CET)

Those are great ideas. You can do whatever you like to add more content to the pages (along with sources). There are few restrictions on adding more details about their lives outside MindCrack on their pages. You can upload their profile pictures/logos onto the site. The web host has restrictions on automatic uploads from other websites and I couldn't find a way around that (Minotar for the skin generation was the exception that worked, but AmazonAWS' Minecraft Skins, which would be a better source for skins, didn't work) so you have to update the pictures manually. If you have banner pictures for the main page, you can upload them here and I'll add them to the banner.--Admin (talk) 03:08, 7 November 2014 (CET)
I see you've uploaded Nebris' banner, but the banners are a lot wider than the picture that was uploaded. (Adlington's banner) How'd you get a more "square" look rather than a "rectangle" one seen with Ads'?--Mega (talk) 05:05, 7 November 2014 (CET)
I removed the extra parameters that YouTube puts in desktop banners. The full image for Ads' would be https://yt3.ggpht.com/-mGTuZW7NZRo/UeYNiyGAoHI/AAAAAAAAADc/rs3JFjkQN4w/w1060/channels4_banner.png --Admin (talk) 05:11, 7 November 2014 (CET)
Alright, I'll get to uploading, then. I was also thinking of somehow putting their channel trailers on their page. Not all of them have trailers, though, I know Adlington and Aureylian do. But is it possible to do that?--Mega (talk) 05:21, 7 November 2014 (CET)
I have tested that idea before but it sometimes lags the browser on slower machines trying to load the embedded video. I used to have one up on the main page for a while. You could provide a link to it if you want.--Admin (talk) 05:35, 7 November 2014 (CET)
I don't know, I feel like with certain trailers like Anderz', they really give off their personalities and would work well physically on their page. I understand if that's a bit of a stretch for some browsers, though.--Mega (talk) 05:42, 7 November 2014 (CET)
I was thinking we could put their YouTube profile pictures next to their Minecraft avatars in the infobox if possible, something like this.--Mega (talk) 07:16, 7 November 2014 (CET)
Would you like a secondary template that lists all the YouTube information like subscribers, views, and number of videos, and place the YouTube avatar and banner in there?--Admin (talk) 16:49, 8 November 2014 (CET)
That could work, whatever you think would work best.--Mega (talk) 05:07, 9 November 2014 (CET)
So... is that a yes or a no?--Mega (talk) 03:54, 11 November 2014 (CET)

Personal Subreddits[edit]

Should we link to subreddits dedicated to a specific MindCracker? I've found:

Also:

--Mega (talk) 03:54, 11 November 2014 (CET)

You can link the officially endorsed ones but not the unofficial ones. It seems like all are endorsed except Etho's.--Admin (talk) 05:02, 11 November 2014 (CET)

Wiki in Other Languages[edit]

Would there be any consideration to add variations of the MindCrack wiki in other languages? --Aejrogota (talk) 21:43, 17 November 2014 (CET)

Sorry, I didn't catch this discussion. I had attempted to add a language section in the past but AlterVista has restrictions on what I can do to the database (you can see "Languages" in the sidebar but it's blank). More recently I had attempted another technique by creating a secondary wiki but I'm unsure if it would work well. If you'd like, you can create subpages for the language you want to write, like "kurtmac/fr", "kurtmac/es", etc.--Admin (talk) 12:07, 24 January 2015 (CET)

Suggestions[edit]

Ruby has recently stated that it's officially known as "Mindcrack," with a lower-case C. So... we may want to change those up.

Additionally, I feel as though the Active LPs section of the infobox is unnecessary. All it does is repeat information given later on the page. It's also difficult to keep updated for the amount of members and all of their active Let's Plays. So I'm just throwing in my two cents about that...--Mega (talk) 07:41, 24 January 2015 (CET)

It would be tough to change every word, although Guude still alternates between an upper and lower case C. We can keep it as is until there is more word from Guude. I don't expect the list of LPs to be a priority. It's nice to have but not necessary to keep updated. I myself haven't been utilizing that section so if more agree to have it removed, I would support the decision.--Admin (talk) 11:59, 24 January 2015 (CET)
I personally also find the "Lets play" section a better source of the active lets plays, and thus rarely use the infobox. --KnightMiner (t|c) 17:13, 24 January 2015 (CET)
I agree about changing from MindCrack to Mindcrack. Guude only capitalizes the C in his SMP episodes - everything else has it written as Mindcrack. Also, I was just thinking about the Active LP section the other day, because they're rarely updated and like you said, they're redundant since you can easily see which LPs are active a bit further down the page. I'd support removing them. --User:Palpt (talk) 23:30, 24 January 2015 (CET)
I agree that we should wait until further word from Guude on the capitalization of "MindCrack", and also that the active LP list is redundant and difficult to keep updated. --Mgt98 (talk) 07:29, 25 January 2015 (CET)

Zipkrowd?[edit]

When did this Wiki also start focusing on Zipkrowd? And if it does, then shouldn't the Main Page also reflect the new focus on Zipkrowd as well as HermitCraft and Mindcrack? 67.173.69.202 21:35, 24 May 2015 (CEST)
