World Pages?[edit]

I wonder if there should be discussion of the different Fan Server worlds? They have the old world with BlockHaven, a new world with portals to the various towns, and an FTB world. I want to read/write about the new vanilla world. Does this belong on this page, or should a new page be started?

It would be great if you can create these pages with details about them. Make sure you have the correct name of the new world, although I don't think there is one. If you can't muster that much information, it's best to place these information in existing pages. Vanilla worlds would be in the history section of the Fan server page (create a new section if needed), and FTB information would be in the Feed the Beast/Fan Server page. References are a must.--Admin 00:13, 17 April 2013 (CEST)
I want to read/write about the new world as well, and I think this page is probably the best place for it, since the new map is where the current videos are being produced. Also, apologies for the incredibly ugly edit wall. Did not realize it left such an annoying chain. Oops. =p--TehBrawlGuy 02:39, 22 April 2013 (PDT)

Inconsistencies[edit]

I noticed that there are a few members that have conflicting information. For example: on this page, it says that Bruschetta12 is inactive, but on his own page it says he's active. (Other pages that state the opposite status include arrowhoodcobra, Sicatriz, TPC, badreams, and HiBoy.) I'm not sure which ones should be considered correct, I just wanted to let someone (Spacey) know so they can fix it. =/ --Mega (talk) 17:24, 1 June 2013 (CEST)

If the avatar can be attached to each member as a property, and YouTube and Twitch channels are added to the members page as a property, then the list on MindCrack Fan Server, and possibly HermitCraft and hermit craft can be changed to queries that update when a change is made to the members page, keeping the server activity correct between the pages. Status could be active, inactive or previous. I'm not sure we could do the whole table for MindCrack, but YouTube and Twitch channels could be properties, so titles only have to be updated in one place.Atharsea (talk) 01:06, 3 June 2013 (CEST)
I haven't been consistent with the updates. Sometimes I leave individual pages alone when I mass update this single page. I have tried using SMW for this but it would be much too difficult to keep the layout of the table. I don't like the "previous" status. Some members who left still interact with the MCFS people outside the server. Some don't announce leaving the server and I only get a once-in-a-blue-moon update on who got kicked off the server - even that is incomplete.--Admin 18:55, 3 June 2013 (CEST)
I think we can use SMW to do it - see what I suggest at Sandbox#Member List. To make it work most efficiently members in the "inactive" and "No longer whitelisted" categories would have to be differentiated. How about using a template, sort of like the H template for HermitCraft members, that will give a value to sort by for the members list, but will just read as "inactive" on the members page? I know it would make mass updates more difficult, but using semantic would keep individual pages and the main list consistant. --Atharsea (talk) 07:21, 4 June 2013 (CEST)
The other way of doing it, which would allow mass editing, would be to put member data into a database. The main list, and individual member pages, would then query the database for accurate data. Most of the parameters that we'd need are already there:page is, server is, status, join date, age, country, status, contest by and invited by. Parameters for Twitch & YouTube would have to be added, and probably one for first video, because I don't think there's a way to make a subquery that will display the way we want it to, and that is a static element. If queries are amenable to being in a template the queries from the page could be written quicker. Let me know if I can help. --Atharsea (talk) 15:40, 4 June 2013 (CEST)
I hadn't thought of using the template feature before. I'll test it out.--Admin 20:07, 5 June 2013 (CEST)
