The Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) is a series of conventions held in Seattle, Boston, Melbourne and San Antonio made exclusively for gaming.

Created by the authors of the Penny Arcade webcomic (Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik), the convention began in 2004 in Seattle, Washington. In 2010, PAX held its first event in Boston, Massachusetts, PAX East. The Seattle based event became known as PAX Prime. In 2013, PAX held its first event outside of the United States, PAX Australia in Melbourne. The first PAX South was held in South Antonio, Texas in 2015.

Of those held in the United States, Mindcrack has had representation at all PAX conventions since PAX East 2013. Starting at PAX East 2014, Mindcrack held a panel at every event until PAX Prime 2015, each with varying topics of discussion.

PAX East 2014 was held in Boston, Massachusetts from 11-13 April 2014. Mindcrack hosted a panel on 12 April at 10:30am that was livestreamed to Twitch,[1] and also recorded in the crowd and later uploaded to YouTube. All attending Mindcrackers participated, with WesWilson moderating.[2] Guude says the panel was "pretty well received."[3]

With the exception of Nebris (a Boston resident), all attending Mindcrackers stayed in a rented house, along with Mindcrack's project coordinator WesWilson, and friends OMGchad and sevadus. mcgamer and VintageBeef had intended to attend, but were unable to for various reasons.[3] Episode 69 of the Mindcrack Podcast was recorded live in the house, featuring Guude, jsano19, PauseUnpause, SethBling, W92Baj, Zisteau, WesWilson, OMGchad, and sevadus.

Antics at the convention lead to discussion on how to eat string cheese appropriately. Guude tweeted his "horror" of BTC biting into string cheese, rather than stringing it.[4] After Chad was filmed biting into it, Pause and sevadus also displayed their anger over the eating method.[5] BTC uploaded a video to his channel demonstrating the "proper" way to eat string cheese.[6]

PAX Prime 2014[edit]

PAX Prime 2014 was held in Seattle, Washington from 29 August-1 September 2014. Mindcrack hosted a panel on 31 August at 6pm that was livestreamed to Twitch,[7] and also recorded with a fixed camera and later uploaded to YouTube. The topic was "Creating Compelling Group Content",[8] and was initially limited to only 6 panelists,[9][10] but all 9 attending members of Mindcrack participated, with WesWilson again moderating. jsano had lost his voice and said very little during the panel.

The group once again rented a house to stay in, though videos from the location were limited for privacy reasons.[citation needed] This is the first PAX convention (of those held in the US) that marc did not attend since 2009.[11]

PAX South 2015[edit]

PAX South 2015 was held in San Antonio, Texas from 23-25 January 2015. Mindcrack held a panel on 23 January at 5pm,[12] which was not livestreamed due to technical difficulties, but was uploaded to YouTube using Twitch's footage.[13] The topic was "Gaming as a Group", and again listed only 6 panelists,[14] but all 9 attending members of Mindcrack participated in the panel, with WesWilson again moderating.

As with previous conventions, the group rented a house to stay in with friends and family. Zisteau[15] and PauseUnpause[16] had intended to attend, but were unable to for various reasons. Chad released the PAX South edition of his quirky and awkward "Chad on the Street" interview show, featuring Guude, Holly and Liz, lolRenaynay, and Paul and Storm.

PAX East 2015 was held in Boston, Massachusetts from 6-8 March 2015. Mindcrack held a panel on 8 March at 1:30pm[17] that was livestreamed to Twitch, and later uploaded to YouTube using Twitch's footage. With the topic and listed panelists identical to that of PAX South a few months prior,[18] all 7 attending members of Mindcrack participated in the panel, with WesWilson again moderating.

PAX Prime 2015[edit]

PAX Prime 2015 was held in Seattle, Washington from 28-31 August 2015. Mindcrack held a panel on 30 August at 12pm, which was livestreamed to Twitch, and later uploaded to YouTube using Twitch's footage. Mindcrack members conducted a number of live interviews with game developers.

While at PAX, Pause and Guude were gifted a Tenga masturbatory egg each from Twitch streamer Richard_Hammer.[20][21] They both uploaded identical videos to their channels showing themselves experimenting with the eggs.[22][23]

PAX East 2016[edit]
