2013 Mindcrack Marathon

The 2013 Mindcrack Marathon was a 48 hour livestream marathon held by Mindcrack (in association with MCProHosting) on 18-20 October 2013 to raise money for Child's Play, a charity that provides toys, books, and games to children in hospitals around the world. The event was first announced on the Mindcrack Podcast on 15 September, and later on 16 October in an event reminder featuring PauseUnpause and AvidyaZEN. MCProHosting provided the whitelisted server for $20 donors.

All money donated during the event was added to the Far Lands or Bust! (FLoB) season 4 fundraiser total. The goal of the marathon was to have FLoB reach its $100,000 season goal. The FLoB fundraiser was at $47,268.31 on 17 October.

Events

The marathon was streamed to the Mindcrack Network Twitch page, with the stream and donation widget displayed on MindcrackLP.com. The 48 hours were divided into 16 3-hour long segments, with the allocated streamers free to fill their portion of the stream however they pleased. Three segments also listed Guude as the streamer, though the partnered Mindcracker was the one that streamed in all cases. generikb and BdoubleO100 were listed to stream together during slot 2 (18 Oct 6:00pm - 9:00pm); BdoubleO streamed to the Mindcrack Network Twitch page, while generikb streamed to his own. Slot 14 (20 Oct 6:00am - 9:00am) was left as a wildcard, which ended up being AvidyaZEN.

Videos

Archives of the stream were supposed to be uploaded to YouTube by AvidyaZEN, though the process was tedious and time consuming to do. The streams are no longer available on Twitch, and much of the event has been lost.

Prizes

Donor server

$20 donors during the marathon were automatically whitelisted on the donor server, provided they had entered their Minecraft username into their comment correctly. The server was hosted by MCProHosting, and the IP was mindcrack.mcprohosting.com. The server included a hub, 2 survival faction PvP worlds, 2 plot creative worlds, and 2 King of the Ladder worlds. Access to the server was a gift to thank those donating and did not prevent those who broke rules from being removed.

Raffle items

Originally these items were intended to be auctioned off, using an auction bot in the Twitch chat. An attempt near the end of the first streaming slot did not work due to fraudulent votes, so it was decided to raffle the items instead. Raffles were opened for period of time in which $20 got the entrant 2 tickets and an additional ticket for every $10 more. Winners were then chosen using a random number generator.

Outcome

$3884.83 from 147 contributors had been raised in the two hours before the marathon began. As of FLoB #308, $117,897.69 was raised during the marathon, taking FLoB's total to $165,548.50 from $47,650.81. /r/mindcrack moderator nWW reported a total of $118,097.69 raised during the event.
