AnderZEL, also known by his personal name Anders Eriksson[2] L.,[3] is a Swedish Let's Play commentator and a member of Mindcrack since April 2012, having been invited to join the Mindcrack Server by VintageBeef.[4]

Biography[edit]

AnderZEL was born and raised in the Norrland area of Sweden.[5] He attended a very small school called Fyrås Grundskola for his elementary school education. During that time, he was introduced to Counter-Strike and Battlefield Vietnam, through his friendship with the only other male in his class, Mikael.[6] Anderz attended Wargentinsskolan for his secondary school education.[7][8] Anderz did not attend university.[9] Anderz has one brother, 2 years younger than himself.[10]

The "AnderZEL" handle is derived from his personal name. He says he changed the spelling of his first name to "Anderz" for online uses, due to "Anders" being such a common given name in Sweden.[11] The "EL" comes from the initials of his last name.[3]

AnderZEL produces YouTube content full time.[12] His most recent job before YouTube was as a telemarketer selling newspapers.[13] At some point, Anderz had worked as a telephone salesman for Com Hem, a Nordic Internet service provider.[14]

He currently lives in Östersund, Jämtland, in a one-room apartment[15] which he has resided since 2006.[16]

AnderZEL's uncle is recognized as a Swedish champion in sub-machine gun sports shooting. He and his brother learned how to shoot and to devise explosives from his uncle during their younger years.[17]

Anderz's first ever YouTube video was uploaded in October 2010 to his original YouTube channel "AnderZEL". The video was a Minecraft tutorial showing viewers how to find diamonds. Anderz says the video had reached 500,000 views before his channel was closed.[19]

In late 2011, Anderz had problems with AdSense and monetization, so he created a new channel, "ImAnderZEL", as a workaround.[20][21][22] Anderz reuploaded all of his old videos from his previous channel to his current channel.[23]

In June 2012, AnderZEL mentioned being partnered with the Game Station network.[24]

AnderZEL refers to his subscribers as "polerchs",[21] a term which he coined from the Swedish word polare (homie).[25] He has said he generally favors FPS (first-person shooters) while disliking sandbox games. He has stated that his interest in Minecraft is unusual.[26]

Mindcrack[edit]

VintageBeef was an early subscriber of Anderz. Anderz was so impressed with one of VintageBeef's videos that he featured one of Beef's videos on a monthly subscriber special,[27] earning Beef about an additional 100 subscribers.[22] Anderz joined the Mindcrack Server in April 2012 having been invited by VintageBeef.[4] Anderz has stated that his invitation to the server was likely Beef returning the favor for the early feature.[22]

Personal life[edit]

AnderZEL has dyslexia[28] and is 6'4" tall.[29]

Minecraft skin[edit]

AnderZEL's skin is a modified Steve skin. The beltline and shirt colors were changed. The skin was based off his original skin.[30]

Previous/Alternate skins[edit]

AnderZEL's original skin was similar to his current skin, but had minor differences, notably the hair and skin tone were shaded differently.[29] He had to remake the skin[30] after he changed it for his Borat video,[31] and did not have a copy of the original skin.[32]

Trivia[edit]

  • AnderZEL appeared as a cameo in the show "Battlefield Friends."[36]
  • AnderZEL made a voice appearance in the second season of "Mob Squad" as "Andy", who was a creeper.[37]
  • When he was 17, AnderZEL was chosen to be the honorary member of a fraternity. He was widely known as a wild partythrower at that time and made connections to the fraternity president through these parties.[38]
